Portrait reveals Sir John Laverys guilt over sister

It is a portrait born of tragedy and lasting remorse: a painting that provides a searing insight into the life of one of Scotland’s greatest artists and which is to be sold this month.
The work, by Sir John Lavery, reveals his distress over the suicide of his sister.
The previously obscure painting by one of the leading members of the so-called “Glasgow Boys” will go under the hammer at Bonhams auction house in Edinburgh on August 26.
Bonhams expects the work, from a private collection, to be sold for about £15,000.
