Auction of Vintage equipment Tractors and Farm machinery

MORE than 100 vintage tractors will be on view at the annual Friends of Ferguson event being held at Peepy Farm near Newton later this month.On Sunday, August 28, exhibitors from all over the UK will make their way to the farm, owned by vintage tractor enthusiast John Moffitt, to see the tractors and watch the vintage ploughing matches.Chairman of the event Charlie Halliday said: “This is the 12th annual event and it has grown from the early days when only 20 tractors were involved to this year when it will be a main local event enabling us to make a donation to charity. The beneficiary this year will be the Great North Air Ambulance Service. Everyone is welcome to come along and the day promises to be one to remember.”The rally begins at 10am when the ploughing matches will start with some of the best ploughmen in the UK competing.Ploughmen at the event will include the European Champion John Milnes from Sheffield, British Vintage Champion Jimmy Charmers from Lincolnshire, past champions Stuart Burden from Rotherham, Mike Watkins from Rotherham and local ploughman Raymond Alderson from Darlington.A special attraction this year will be the horse ploughing to the event. British horse champion Jimmy Elliott from Beamish and Lee Harrison will give a demonstration in the art of ploughing with a pair of horses.Noon sees the annual auction of vintage equipment including tractors, farm machinery, spare parts and bygones from the past. The auctioneer will be Chris Armstrong from the Hexham Auction Mart.
