Charity antiques roadshow to aid air ambulance

People can find out whether their collectibles are worthless bits of junk or the answer to their prayers at a charity antiques roadshow this week. For one day only a team of qualified valuers will be on hand to put a price on people’s hidden treasures at a public event at the Forum. And while the professionals are raising people’s hopes, the hopefuls can raise vital funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which is looking to replace its ageing helicopter in the New Year.Roy Murphy, a partner with auction house Keys, which is behind the event, this was the first time it had sent its full team of valuers out into the middle of Norwich.”We’ll have four or five experts specialising in silver, pictures and collectibles of all sorts, and although we hope lots of people will come along we’re optimistic they won’t have to wait too long for their turn,” he said.Members of the public attending the road show will be asked to contribute at least a pound to the air ambulance for every item they have valued.”It’s for a very good cause, so although we won’t be insisting on contributions we hope very much that people will support the air ambulance,” said Mr Murphy.”It should be great fun. My experience of these kinds of events is that people come along and say ‘I don’t care what it’s worth — I just want to know a bit about its history, where it might come from and who might have made it’.”We can answer some of those questions, but there’s always the chance that something valuable will show up among the cups, plates and coronation-ware.
