A car which used to belong to screen goddess Brigitte Bardot is expected to fetch up to £50,000 at auction later today.
The rare 1903 wine coloured De Dion Bouton – the French Rolls-Royce of its day – is one of the many classic cars on sale at Buxton Pavilion at 1pm. It was given to the actress after being used in one of her films. The four-seater is one of the earliest models in existence and is being auctioned by H and H Classic auctions.Mark Hamilton, of H and H, said: “It is a rare beauty and a great honour for us to have such a rare car.”We’re hoping it will fetch somewhere in the region of £40,000 to £50,000, which is a good price for a car of this kind. Only a few are still in existence. And this one is still in working order.”The car is eight horse- power, and “rear entrance tonneau”, said Mr Hamilton, which means it is accessed from the rear. Although the car is open top, it unusually has a wicker basket at the back for an umbrella.”This car will be a much sought after collectors’ piece because it is still capable of taking part in the London to Brighton run,” Mr Hamilton said.Only cars built before 1905 may take part in rally, held each November – meaning none go faster than 20mph.
