A pair of football boots worn by Sir Stanley Matthews in his final league appearance for Stoke City are expected to fetch more than £400 at auction.
The boots, worn during the game against Fulham in February 1965, were given by Sir Stan to a porter at the Grand Hotel in Stafford.

Porter’s son Paul Oliver said he found them when he was clearing out his loft and wanted them to go to a collector.

The boots will go under the hammer at Britannia House in Hanley on Tuesday.

Auctioneers Louis Taylor said they were expecting interest from collectors all over the country and estimated the boots would sell for between £400 and £600.

Sir Stanley, who played 54 times for England, was born in Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent in 1915.

He was one of the most famous footballers of his generation and in 1964 became the first player to be knighted. He died in 2000.
