John Lennon lyrics fail to reach reserve

A set of Beatles lyrics handwritten by John Lennon on the back of a phone bill failed to sell at auction yesterday.
The 17-line draft of I’m Only Sleeping had been expected to sell for at least £200,000 (US$350,000, euro290,000), but failed to reach its reserve price at Christie’s auction house. The song featured on the band’s 1966 album Revolver.Less expensive Lennon items did find buyers at the auction of pop memorabilia.
A never-broadcast recording made by a journalist during Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 Montreal “Bed In” for peace fetched £18,000 (US$32,000, euro26,000). A rare LP cover of The Beatles’ White Album sold for £9,000 (US$16,000, euro13,000), three times its pre-sale estimate.
