Port Glasgow centre for auction

A London-based auction house is selling the property at 36 to 38 Princes Street and 37 to 42 Church Street next week.
The property already holds leases from Farmfoods, Global Video, Martin Retail Group, and ScottishPower, who won’t be affected. There is some empty space on an upper floor.
Auctioneers Allsop & Co are taking bids on 10 and 11 October at a hotel in London.
The Port Glasgow property is just one of almost 300 set for the auction block and one of the most expensive guide prices.
All of the businesses in the town centre property put £85,000 total in rent for the prime locations, according to auction papers. There are 4,273sq ft of empty space on the first floor and some of the rent rates will be reviewed
A spokeswoman for Allsop & Co said: “We are finding that many buyers are local, and that many private individuals are moving from investing in buy-to-let residential property, to investing in commercial property.”
Port Glasgow councillor Jean Stewart said: “I am hopeful that some new businesses will come to Port Glasgow. The town has re-invented itself twice in the past 30 years and will re-invent itself again when the new Tesco opens.
“Obviously we don’t like empty premises and there’s certainly gaps that businesses could fill.”
