A rare football programme from the earliest days of Manchester United has sold for £5,900.
The four-page official card is from a New Year’s Day fixture in 1897 when Newton Heath, the original name of the club, played Newcastle Utd away.
The programme had been expected to raise £5,000 but surpassed auctioneer Mullock Madeley’s expectations.
It went on sale at an auction of sporting memorabilia at Ludlow Racecourse, Shropshire, on Wednesday.
