Stolen designer watches sold on eBay UK
Published November 4th, 2005
A leading British fashion designer had to watch helplessly as her stolen hand-made clothes were sold for a fraction of their worth over the Internet.
Jessica Ogden said she had notified both eBay, the online auction site, and the Metropolitan Police that her stolen clothes were being openly sold, but said neither took action.
Among them was a cashmere cardigan, which would normally retail for more than $600, being sold for about $55, while a merino wool gilet, normally $48), was sold for $76.
Ogden contacted the 16 people who had bought the hand-knitted items, telling them they were stolen, the London Independent said. But, only one replied, making no attempt to return the garment.
The clothes were in a consignment of two boxes being delivered to Selfridges by the courier company TNT during the summer from Ogden’s studio in Kentish Town in north London.
