eBay conman faces jail sentence

A teenager who conned eBay users out of more than £8,000 while on bail for committing similar offences was warned today that he faces prison. Phillip Shortman, 18, of The Twinnings, Cwmbran, appeared in Newport Crown Court after pleading guilty in October to four counts of obtaining property by deception at Abergavenny Magistrate’ Court. Shortman operated his scam from his bedroom at his parents’ house when he was 17, despite asking his victims to pay funds into a bank account held in his name or send cheques to his home address. The court today heard the defendant conned eBay users by pretending to have tickets for this year’s coveted Wales v Ireland Grand Slam rugby game.
