Phantom of the Opera film props for auction
Published November 26th, 2005
Props and costumes from the film of the musical Phantom of the Opera are to be put up for sale in an internet auction.
Around 250 items from the movie, which was released last year, will be placed on auction site eBay by Really Useful Films on 26 November.
The costumes include a crystal gown worn by Minnie Driver, along with more unusual props like a severed head.
Organisers say “all remaining props and costumes” from the 2004 movie will be sold in the auction.
An earlier sale in May saw the Phantom’s distinctive white leather half-mask - worn by Gerard Butler in the film - sold for £6,350.
Based on a novel by Gaston Leroux, the film tells the story of a masked figure who haunts a Paris opera house and falls in love with a young soprano.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage version, which was adapted for the film, has been performed in London’s West End for the last 19 years.
