20th - century Russian art for auction at Bloomsbury Auctions
Published December 7th, 2005
Early 20th-century Russian art will be the core offering of the Impressionist and Modern Art sale at London’s Bloomsbury Auctions Tuesday. Bloomsbury, one of the world’s major fine art and antiques auctioneers, said the four Russian paintings that would go under the hammer as part of Tuesday’s sale had strong selling potential. They showcase the work of three of Russia’s most influential artists of the early 1920s and are the property of a private Dutch collector.
The sale at Bloomsbury will bring to a close the London auctioneers’ 2005 Russian season, which started off in late November with Bonhams’ inaugural Russian sale fetching 2 million pounds ($3.5 million). The artworks put on the auction block at Christie’s November 30 brought in nearly 22 million pounds ($38 million), more than any previous Russian sale. And Sotheby’s December 1 sale broke that record, collecting as much as 22.2 million pounds ($38.5 million).
