eBay UK New Payment Policy

Published December 19th, 2005

eBay has implemented their new ‘Safe Payments Policy’ on eBay.co.uk, however they have not suggested when they will actually be enforcing this policy, whereas in the USA, they have a defined date of the January 15th 2006 and given sellers a full 3 months to update their listings where required! Understandably this has caused confusion with in the eBay UK seller community.

Sellers may offer to accept PayPal, credit cards including MasterCard/Visa /Amex/Discover, debit cards and bank electronic payments online for eBay purchases. Sellers may also offer to accept bank-to-bank transfers, often known as bank wire transfers or bank cash transfers, and the online money order service BidPay. Sellers may accept COD (cash on delivery) or cash for in person transactions. Sellers may offer to accept personal cheques, postal orders (including BidPay), Banker’s drafts, certified cheques and other negotiable instruments.

Sellers may not solicit buyers to mail cash. Sellers may not ask buyers to send cash through instant money transfer services (non-bank, point-to-point cash transfers) such as Western Union or Moneygram. Finally, sellers may not request payment through online payment methods not specifically permitted in this policy.
