Guinness memorabilia for Tennants auction
Published January 8th, 2006
Tennants auctioneers in Leyburn are anticipating international interest in a collection of Guinness memorabilia which goes for auction this spring. The sale will take place on March 18, the day after St Patrick’s Day, and Nick Lambert, Tennants’ head of collectables, joked that he hoped bidders would not have raised too many glasses the night before in celebration of the Irish patron saint. Lots include miniature Guinness bottles which still contain small amounts of the brew, albeit undrinkable, ashtrays, advertising signs and other merchandise, which were acquired by an anonymous private collector.Mr Lambert, who confessed he does not like Guinness, said the memorabilia produced for pubs was the rarest and accordingly the most sought-after. He said the brands reputation for clever and entertaining advertisements, which continues to the present day, has helped to make Guinness items highly collectable.
