Surrey County Council slammed over auction of school site

A “CAVALIER attitude” is how the county council’s handling of the sale of a former school site has been described by Horley Town Council.

In a letter to Surrey County Council (SCC) chairman Nick Skellett, the town council said it and the local community had been bypassed in the sale of the former Court Lodge Infants School site.

The site was advertised for auction on the website of estate agents Savills as suitable for “residential development”, despite its being designated for community use by planning authority Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.

Horley Baptist Church had long desired the site in Court Lodge Road, Horley, as a base for their new home.

But days after being on the website at the end of last month, the county council decided not to auction the site and to sell it privately.
