John Lennon Letters for London auction

Published May 24th, 2006

Christie’s auction house announced that two letters written by the music legend that are to go on sale Thursday could fetch 30 thousand pounds (about 56,000 US dollars).

The letters were written to his first wife Cynthia and his cousin Leila in 1975 and 1976, and show how his relationship with Cynthia and his son Julian deteriorated after he met Yoko Ono, who became his second wife.

The typed letter to Cynthia is signed “your famous ex-husband” and features doodles of a face and trees.

Christie’s will also put up for auction a shirt worn by Lennon in 1963 while recording “She Loves You” as well as a rare copy of “A Hard Day’s Night” that is signed by all four members of The Beatles.
