Cricket fans sabotage eBay Ashe’s ticket auctions

Published June 2nd, 2006

Angry cricket fans have shown their disgust at missing out on Ashes tickets by sabotaging online scalping efforts with fake over-priced bids.

Bids of up $250,000 have been made for the in-demand tickets on website eBay which is home to 200 auctions for 1000 tickets.

The crazy bidding came as Cricket Australia took aim at scalpers and eBay after seats for the first three days of play in four of the five Ashes Tests were sold out by midday.

Only the Boxing Day Test at the 95,000-seat capacity MCG has initial tickets available for the opening days, including just 1200 for day one.

Heavy criticism that traditional cricket fans have been denied tickets by scalpers and English fans, despite attempts to keep them to the Australian Cricket Family, has prompted CA to consider hiring private investigators to stop “sleazebag” profiteers.
