Gwrych Castle, in Abergele, North Wales, was yesterday put up for auction at London’s Connaught Rooms by its American property developer owner Nick Tavaglione.

And though the Grade I listed building failed to reach its reserve price of £1.5m, estate agents Beresford Adams said an offer of £1.24m was made.

Senior manager with the estate agency Chris Dibb said negotiations are on-going with the bidders from the London auction and he is hopeful a sale can be agreed within a week or so.

Mr Dibb said, “Interest was shown through telephone bids and sales bids within the room. It didn’t quite reach its reserve and was withdrawn at £1.24m.
