Police Auction Helps Women’s Refuge
Published June 6th, 2006
A Women’s refuge has received a financial boost, thanks to the work of police officers in recovering stolen goods.
Wiltshire Police handed over £2,250 to Salisbury Women’s Refuge on Monday money that was raised from the auction of seized property.
Goods retrieved by officers are regularly sold off under the Police Property Act, with the proceeds distributed to good causes across the county.
Chief Superintendent Jerry Wickham presented the cheque to the chairman of the refuge’s trustees, Salisbury mayoress Mary Paisey.
The refuge provides a safe haven for women and their children fleeing domestic violence, and helps them become independent, offering training, advice and assistance in finding accommodation.
