A collection of “significant” pieces by Welsh artists, including Sir Kyffin Williams, is going under the hammer.
The 41 works, which include a rare oil painting by Anglesey-based Sir Kyffin which hasn’t been seen in Wales since 1970, will be auctioned on Thursday.

The painting could fetch more than £30,000 when the Washington Gallery in Penarth opens the bidding.

Gallery director Maggie Knight described the collection as “wonderful” and said there was worldwide interest.

“We’ve already had people from America expressing interest and we are going to take telephone bids as well,” explained Ms Knight, the director of the gallery, which runs charitable educational courses for disadvantaged and disabled children.

The auction will be conducted by art expert Philip Taubenheim, who is known for his appearances on the BBC TV’s Antiques Roadshow.

The auction takes place at the Washington Gallery, Penarth at 2000 BST on Thursday.
