East Anglian Motor auctioneers expanding

One of the Norfolk’s best-known motor auction businesses is looking to double its turnover with a move to purpose-built premises at Wymondham in the fast-growing “A11 corridor”.

Family-owned East Anglian Motor Auctions, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, will be leaving its long-established site in Norwich in October.

Work is progressing well on the new complex, on a four-acre site on the Gateway 11 business park, and managing director Chris Beckett is confident the move will be a great success.

He said: “The project started last October and has been on target all the way. Things are going really well, the site looks great so far and everyone at East Anglian Motor Auctions is excited about the move and how it will enable us to develop our business. The Wymondham site will truly be a headquarters fit for the 21st century, which will see the company going from strength to strength, and the move is certainly a powerful way to mark our 60 years in business.”

The company sells about 300 vehicles a week at three popular auctions. Mr Beckett is aiming to increase that figure to 500-600.

The Wymondham complex, which has been designed by Norwich-based architect David Marris, is being built by Draper & Nichols. It includes a drive-through saleroom with tiered seating, an under-canopy area for displaying vehicles, valeting and vehicle preparation areas, extensive customer car parking, offices and a café.

Mr Beckett said: “The site, on the south side of the city and just off the A11, will provide much easier access than Aylsham Road for customers and will give us the space we need to grow and to take the business forward. South Norfolk Council has been very supportive throughout our move to Wymondham, which has been a great help.

“Gateway 11 and the ‘A11 corridor’ are really taking off at the moment and we are delighted to be part of that growth in activity. We are very much a regional company and our new position will mean we are well-placed for customers from across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.”

East Anglian Motor Auctions has 25 staff and Mr Beckett expects to recruit further after the move to Wymondham.

The Aylsham Road site is being sold to a London developer for light industrial use.
