Hans Christian Andersen Illustrations for Cambridge auction

Pictures of some of the world’s best loved fairytales will go under the hammer at a Cambridge auction house.
The Fine Art Sale at Cheffins includes several works by Edward Ardizzone, inspired by master storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.
Classics like The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling and The Snow Queen are brought to life in the watercolours and pen and ink sketches. The various lots are expected to fetch prices ranging from £500-£3,500.
Sarah Flynn, who runs Cheffins’ paintings department, said: “It is the entire set of his illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen. It’s wonderful, everyone would love one.”
Porcelain, watches, barometers, furniture,rugs and other items will also be on offer at the two-day sale, starting at 11am on both Wednesday and Thursday, September 6-7, at Cheffins, Clifton Road, Coleridge, Cambridge.
