Published September 19th, 2006
Items signed by the one of most famous presidents of the United States are going on sale near Swindon next month.
The items include a series of three engravings given as Christmas cards signed by President John F Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline and are going under the hammer at the Dominic Winter Auction House on October 4.
The collection also includes an original gouache painting produced by the First Lady herself in 1962 after her visit to India and Pakistan.
In all the items are expected to fetch about £20,000 and are being sold because the costs of insuring the items are too high.
The items belonged to the family of Kent woman Maud Shaw, who was the Kennedy family’s nanny during JFK’s presidency.
Maud Shaw played a huge role in the family’s life and she famously had the difficult task of breaking the news of JFK’s death to his daughter Caroline in 1963.
Auctioneer Chris Albury said: “This truly is a red letter day for the many Kennedy collectors worldwide. The closeness of Maud Shaw to the Kennedys and their children makes these mementos very personal and collectable.
