Published October 20th, 2006
British artist Banksy raked in a whole load more of cash yesterday when some of his artwork went under the hammer for thousands of pounds.
The renegade artist sold his version of the Mona Lisa and an Andy Warhol-esque take on Kate Moss to a private collector; both sold for around £50,000 each.
The Kate Moss artwork features the model as Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe while the Mona Lisa is painted using a spray paint technique with paint dripping from under her eyes; it also features a Metropolitan police tag.
The auction in Sotheby’s saw Banksy exceed his previous sales record of £21,000 cementing his reputation as one of the UK’s leading artists
