H&H Kempton Park Classic Car Auction
Published October 20th, 2006
The total sale from the event exceeded £500,000, and a Lagonda LG45 accounted for around 14% of that, selling for just over £70,000.
A Gill-bodied Rolls-Royce 20/25hp Allweather Convertible achieved the next highest figure at just under £52,000, while a 1969 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 - once owned by that notorious Ferrari fan Lord Brocket - fetched £44,000, partly no doubt because it had covered just 15,000 miles.
The best price for a competition car was the £32,000 paid by a Hong Kong-based collector for the very rare 1948 Connaught L2 Sports Racer, while a Stanguellini Formula Junior car went for £23,000, well above its top estimate.
Of all the cars in the auction, the one with the most dubious past was a 1994 Audi RS2 which was stolen before it was registered and used as a getaway vehicle by a gang of thieves. Restored by its original dealer, this one went for just over £14,000.
H&H’s last car event of the year will be at Buxton on November 21/22, but before that the company will be holding a motorcycle, bicycle and motobilia auction at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull on November 4.
