Paintings fetch 1.9million at Scottish auction

A collection of works by Scottish colourists has fetched a record £1.9 million at auction, it has emerged.

The top lot among the 18 paintings was Samuel Peploe’s Pink Roses in a glass vase, which sold for £276,800 at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.

It was purchased by a telephone buyer following a bidding battle with a man present at the auction held by Christie’s
