Cartier mystery clock to sell for 1000 times the price paid in 1941

Published November 22nd, 2006

A remarkable Cartier “Mystery Clock” from the 1920s worth in excess of £200,000 is to be sold at Bonhams’ Sale of Fine Clocks on 12 December at 101 New Bond Street in London. The unique clock is made of rock crystal, jade, gold, silver, diamonds, onyx, enamel and coral and would have taken at least one year to make. It was bought by the vendor’s father from an antique shop in Hampstead, London, in 1941 for - £350 - at the time a great deal of money. Today it is expected to fetch perhaps one thousand times that price.
