Russian London Art Auctions

The painting “A Little Dressmaker” by Alexei Kharlamov (1840-1925), a Russian artist of the late 19th century has been sold by the Bonhams auction house for 610 thousand GBP (1 million and 160 thousand USD). None of Kharlamov’s paintings had ever been sold at such a high price before.
The experts of Bonhams had not expected the “Little Dressmaker” to be sold for more than 300 thousand pounds (570 thousand dollars). The ultimate amount two times exceeding the preliminary estimate is the evidence of the growing demand for the Russian painting of the second half of the 19th century.
The painting auctions at Bonhams opened the week of Russian art auctions in the British capital. The most promising biddings are expected today at the Christie’s.
