Brighouse charity shop auction
Published December 25th, 2006
A BRIGHOUSE charity shop is hitting the right note this Christmas with an internet auction.
Oxfam in Commercial Street is taking part in a national campaign aimed at using music to raise money.
The ‘Oxjam’ music festival promotion has seen budding musicians – from local pub bands to the likes of the Scissor Sisters – jamming for charity.
And Brighouse shop manager, Andrew Milnes, has secured a selection of signed Embrace memorabilia so that fans can bid for the goods on eBay.
From a picture signed by the Brighouse band to a signed copy of the official World Cup song, ‘World at Your Feet’ and album ‘Nature’s Law,’ there is plenty for fans to chose from, including a T-shirt which Danny McNamara wore on their October UK tour which has been signed by all the band.
The goods will be available separately on the internet website from Christmas Eve for 10 days.
Mr Milnes said: “We hope to raise as much money as possible and by having the goods on the internet we hope to open it up to a wider audience as well as letting people in Brighouse know it’s there.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what happens – I have no idea of the value, I guess that is down to what fans are prepared to pay for the goods.â€
Nationally, the campaign which was launched in October, has been a success and Mr Milnes says the Scissors Sisters were one of the first bands to show their support by holding a concert.
“I have recently taken over the branch so we are a bit late starting but the idea is to run it again next year,†said Mr Milnes.
“It has given people the chance to raise money in a different way through music.â€
The Brighouse branch is constantly on the look-out for new volunteers and Mr Milnes says they have been stretched by a shortage of staff.
He has asked anyone who is able to spare a couple of hours a week to contact him and urged anyone who has any quality donations to take them into the shop.
“If anyone can give a couple of hours then we try to be as flexible as possible.
“Whether someone is wanting work experience or is looking to work in charity, we will help them as much as they can help us,†said Mr Milnes.
