London Times auction raises £50,000 for Red Cross
Published December 31st, 2006
Readers of The Times raised more than £50,000 in this year’s annual charity auction, with all the money — a record sum — going to the British Red Cross.
The chance to dine at Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant in New York, The London, attracted the most interest and went for £6,001 to Paul McGrath from Liverpool.
He and a guest will fly to New York with Virgin Atlantic and have lunch at the bar, and dinner in the new restaurant. Ramsay has promised to choose the wine.
Close behind in popularity was the cartoon that Peter Brookes will draw on the day that Tony Blair finally announces that he is quitting. It went for £5,281.79 to an anonymous bidder.
Other anonymous bidders snapped up a day at the FA Cup Final for £3,778 and a day at a Paris fashion show with Lisa Armstrong, fashion editor of The Times, for £3,331.99.
