Chateau Petrus Wines Beat Estimates at Sothebys London Auction
Published April 2nd, 2007
Chateau Petrus wines from the cellar of the late British collector Adrian Bowden soared beyond their presale estimates at a Sotheby’s London auction on demand for historic vintages of trophy producers.
Sotheby’s said a case of 1982 Petrus fetched 36,800 pounds ($72,440). It sold for the equivalent of 3,067 pounds a bottle, 48 percent more than the 2,070 pound price for the same vintage in February.
The auction, held March 29, raised 1.43 million pounds, including the 15 percent buyers’ premium, about a quarter more than the high end of Sotheby’s estimate. Eight of the top 10 lots sold went to Asian private buyers and two to the U.S. trade.
