The Superman costume donned by late actor Christopher Reeve in the 1978 movie fetched a whopping 115,000 dollars at an auction on Internet site eBay.com.

The proceeds of the red and blue ensemble was almost double the amount of between 50,000 to 70,000 dollars that it was expected to sell for.

The Spiderman dress was one of the various items put up for sale by memorabilia firm ‘Profiles In History’.

H. R. Giger’s creature suit from the 1979 movie ‘Alien’ was also sold for 126,500 dollars at the auction, reports Contactmusic.

Several other items to go under the hammer were Marilyn Monroe’s gown ffrom ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ and Val KilMer’s Batman costume from ‘Batman Forever’, which fetched 92,000 dollars and 63,250 dollars respectively.

Elsewhere, the golden headpiece of the ‘Staff Of Ra’ from ‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’ was sold for 69,000 dollars.
