Sothebys Sells $9.6M Worth of Russian Art at First Auction

The first session of Russian art sale held by Sotheby’s auction house on Monday, April 16, yielded $9.6 million.
On Monday the auction house put up for sale furniture, clocks, and Faberge gold and silverware. On Tuesday it will sell Russian paintings.
In the run up to the sale, Sotheby’s said that last year it had been the top venue for Russian art, bringing in almost $154 million.
“Vision of St. Sergius, when a child,†a painting dated 1922 by artist Mikhail Nesterov, is currently the most expensive lot of the sale, priced at $3 million.
“The Inspector General†by Boris Grigoryev, “Mongol Tsam†by Nicholas Roerich and “Lady with a Parasol†by Natalia Goncharova have price tags of about $1 million each
