10K Sea Harrier on eBay
Published April 27th, 2007
Neil Banwell brought the Sea Harrier for under £10,000 on the auction website.
The jet, which led the first attack on Port Stanley airfield in May 1982, can’t fly as it came without its £250,000 engine.
But father-of-three Neil, 39, plans to restore it to its former glory and pick up a cheap used engine from aircraft makers BAE Systems.
He said: “It beats any used car hands down. I was 14 when the war broke out and used to watch the Harriers flying out on the news every night.
“I was disappointed when they stopped flying them last year. When I saw one on eBay, I jumped at it.”
The jet, which was sold by an aircraft dealer in Suffolk, is being stored near Neil’s home in Wedmore, Somerset.
