Princess Diana car for auction

A TAMESIDE auction house is auctioning off a classic car once used to chauffeur Princess Diana around.

The Jaguar Sovereign, a 1992 model in Westminster blue, is one of more than 30 vintage vehicles in the sale at Simon Charles Auctioneers in Ashton.

It is hoped its royal connections will raise up to £20,000.

The motor, described as being in mint condition, was made to order for Buckingham Palace.

It was part of the royal fleet for three years, used to drive Princess Diana around, and was even snapped by the paparazzi dropping her off at one of her engagements.

Owner Alan Verity bought the car, which has had one other owner, through a Jaguar enthusiasts’ club and says it has been his pride and joy for the past decade.

Mike Andrews, of the Nile Street auctioneers, has organised the sale which takes place today (Thursday) at 10am.
