Karl quits SLMG to join family fishing business

Published August 17th, 2007

THE MANAGER of the controversial co-op set up to sell and market Shetland livestock has quit just weeks before the busy annual sales season.

Karl Simpson leaves his post with the Shetland Livestock Marketing Group (SLMG) today after nearly three-and-a-half years to join his father in the Lerwick fish sales company Simpson & Ward.

Group chairman and SIC councillor Jim Budge has sought to reassure members and other crofters and farmers planning to sell stock during September and October that “everything is pretty much under control”.

He said on Wednesday the sales should go ahead as scheduled, depending on foot and mouth restrictions, starting on 8th September.
