Singapore Air sets date for online auction of A380 tickets

Published August 18th, 2007

Singapore Airlines’ online auction of tickets for the first commercial A380 flight will start on Aug. 27, the company announced Thursday.

Built by Airbus, the A380 is the world’s largest passenger jet and is scheduled to enter service with Singapore Airlines in October. The airline will sell seats on the first flight, from Singapore to Sydney, on eBay Inc.’s Singaporean auction site, with all proceeds going to charity.

Tickets for the Oct. 25 flight will be auctioned off for all three classes of service: Singapore Airlines Suites, business class, and economy. Starting bids for the tickets have yet to be revealed. However, the cheapest fare listed on Singapore Airline’s Web site for a single round-trip ticket from Singapore to Sydney is S$900 (US$585).
