Mitchells Auction Mart to reopen in Cumbria

Auctioneer Adam Day said: “We are not back to normality but being able to have animals here and to send them to slaughter is definitely a positive step.”

Mr Day also said: “We are asking farmers to let us know exactly what animals they are bringing as it is important we don’t have too many here. By allowing us to take animals off the hands of the farmers, it is another step to getting Cumbrian farming back on track.”

Sales are expected to be back to normal on September 10.

The auction mart was closed when animal movements were banned nationally after foot and mouth disease was found on a farm in Surrey.
