Police officers put Diana item on eBay

Two police officers tried to auction the order of service from the memorial for Princess Diana on eBay.

The officers put one of the 12-page booklets on the internet site within hours of the event.

A police statement said one of the officers had received “words of advice” while the other “would be spoken to” when he returned from leave.

The service marked the 10th anniversary of her death.

The memorial was held at Guards’ Chapel at Wellington Barracks on 31 August.

The booklet has since been removed from the auction website.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “The matter has been brought to our attention and has been dealt with by senior management within the City of Westminster police.

“One of the officers concerned has received words of advice about his actions and the other officer, who is not currently on duty, will be spoken to in due course.

“In addition, steps will be taken in the form of guidance to officers in the borough about what is expected of them when policing public events.”
