Airbus 380 auction raises 1.3 million dollars for charity

Successful bidders for seats on the first commercial flight of the Airbus 380 superjumbo jet raised more than 1.9 million Singapore dollars (1.3 million US dollars) for charity, Singapore Airlines (SIA) said on Thursday.
‘The auction has provided many aviation enthusiasts around the world with the opportunity to bid to be a part of history’ on the largest passenger plane, said SIA Chief Executive Officer Chew Choon Seng.
The double-decker makes its inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney on October 25 and returns the following day.
Scheduled service on the Airbus 380 begin on October 28 on the same route.
Australians made up the largest nationality of successful bidders on the online eBay auction with 15 per cent. Singaporeans followed with 11 per cent. Britons emerged third with 6 per cent followed by Americans, 4 per cent, Germans, 3 per cent and the remainder from ‘all over the world,’ SIA said in a statement.

The top bid of 100,380 US dollars came from Australian Julian Hayward for a pair of first-class suites. The lowest was 560 US dollars from a man from San Francisco for an economy class seat.
