Seth Hughes & Son of Wrexham to close after 132 years
Published September 20th, 2007
Dan Evans, 67, is to bang his gavel for the last time at the Seth Hughes & Son showroom in Wrexham.
The firm was started by his wife’s grandfather in 1875 and Mr Evans took over from his father-in-law, also called Seth Hughes, in 1969.
The most expensive item to go under the hammer at the firm was an 18th Century oil painting which sold for £26,500.
Mr Evans worked as an electrical engineer before joining the family firm in 1967 and taking over on the death of his father-in-law.
