FMD restrictions eased to let Scottish auctions restart

Auction sales of cattle and sheep have been prohibited since September 12 following a second outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Surrey. The ban on prime stock sales was lifted on Monday and store and breeding stock sales are to be allowed from tomorrow.
“This further relaxation will give our farmers and the livestock industry a much-needed boost,” said Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead.
