Rare sketch snapped up for £1,500

A rare signed sketch by Northamptonshire artist Charles Spencelayh will stay in the county after being sold at auction to a private collector.

An unknown buyer from Great Doddington bought the sketch for £1,500, £300 above the estimated sale price.

Three further works by the Bozeat painter, who died at St Andrew’s Nursing Home in 1958, raised a total of £500 during the sale, held at Wilford’s auctioneer house in Wellingborough yesterday.
