Duchess of Cornwall bidding on painting at JP Humbert Auctioneers

The Duchess of Cornwall has put forward a bid for a painting of her great-grandmother which is currently for sale with a Towcester auctioneer.

JP Humbert Auctioneers Ltd, on Burcote Road, will be auctioning off the painting as well as several other items at a fine arts and antiques sale on October 25 and 26.

The pastel portrait was painted by Ellis Roberts in 1905 and is of Alice Keppel, a British socialite and mistress of King Edward the VII. It has attracted interest from Clarence House, which has put in a bid for an undisclosed sum for the painting.

Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert said: “We have sold into the royal collection before, such as items from Stowe House before it became a school. Part of our job as auctioneers is to speak to buyers and sellers and if we have something they need to know about, we will tell them.”

The auction will take place at the salesrooms on Burcote Road, from 6pm. For more information, telephone 01327 359595.
