Chilcotts to open second saleroom in Honiton

Published November 29th, 2007

Chilcotts, the fine art and antiques auctioneers and valuerst, is to open a second saleroom in Honiton, it was announced on Monday.

Chilcotts will run the Silver Street saleroom in conjunction with Stags, a leading West Country firm of estate agents, valuers and estate managers.

“Since we established Chilcotts just over three years ago, it became obvious to us that there was a need for an auction room in Honiton,” said Duncan Chilcott.

“Our saleroom at the Chilcott School, Tiverton, has quickly gained a reputation for selling good antique furniture, silver, jewellery, works of art and collectors’ items and our sales have attracted buyers from throughout the South West as well as nationally and internationally.

“Prices achieved reflect the strength of the market, with the result that many of our vendors were looking to us to provide them with the opportunity to sell lower value antiques, good quality reproduction and modern furniture and general household items. With its long history as a saleroom, Stags’ Silver Street premises were the perfect choice.”

Andrew Luxton, manager of Stags, Honiton, said he was delighted with the association with Chilcotts. “There have been auction sales in Silver Street for at least 30 years and it is still home to Stags’ weekly livestock market.

“This venture gives local people the opportunity to buy and sell second hand goods that would otherwise not be available.”

The Silver Street sales will be held on Saturdays, for the convenience of private buyers. The inaugural sale taking place on Saturday December 1. Viewing will be on Fridays from 9am to 5pm and on the morning of sale days, from 9am to the start of the sale at noon. Sales will be held quarterly for an initial period.

Specialist sales of good antiques and works of art will continue unchanged at Chilcotts in Tiverton.
