Banksy Street Art Makes £208,100 Pounds on eBay

A wall in the Portobello Road, London adorned with a mural by cult graffiti artist Banksy today sold on EBay for 208,100 pounds.
The buyer will have to pay for the additional cost of removing the 15-foot-wide mural, (estimated at 5,000 pounds) which shows the figure of a traditional painter finishing the real artist’s name.
There were 69 bids for the mural, which is protected by a Perspex sheet.
Last year one of his works, Space Girl and Bird, sold for £288,000.
Bobby Read, art expert at specialist insurer Hiscox, said: “This sale confirms Banksy as a modern-day cross between Michelangelo and the Scarlet Pimpernel.
“2008 starts where 2007 left off with Banksy making headlines.”
Banksy’s provocative works, which include paintings on Israel’s barrier through the West Bank and commentaries on consumerism and power, have become favoured collectors’ items.
The reclusive artist, who comes from Bristol, is highly sought after by the likes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who bought a Banksy painting at a Los Angeles auction for 200,000 pounds in 2006.
