Bordeaux Prices Hold Stable at Sothebys

Prices for Bordeaux first-growths including Chateau Lafite and Margaux held stable at Sotheby’s first wine sale this year in London, with right-bank producers Petrus and Cheval Blanc accounting for seven of the top 10 lots.

A case of Lafite 1982 sold for 16,675 pounds ($32,853), including a 15 percent buyer’s premium, in line with its presale estimate, and six magnums of Chateau Margaux 1990 fetched 8,625 pounds, at the lower end of the forecast range. The Jan. 16 sale raised a total of 720,245 pounds, with 84 percent of lots sold.

Two half-cases of Chateau Petrus 1990 from Pomerol attracted bids of 13,225 pounds each and a case of the 1995 sold for 10,465 pounds, in line with the auction house’s estimates. Three magnums of Petrus 1998 sold for 11,270 pounds, above the estimate, while five cases of Mouton Rothschild 1982 sold for between 6,210 pounds and 6,325 pounds each, below their forecast range.
