Museum buys ‘stunning’ Turner at auction

A WATERCOLOUR by one of Britain’s most important painters has been acquired by The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.

Bowes Tower, Yorkshire, by JMW Turner, was bought at auction for £30,500.

Summer sketching tours were part of Turner’s annual routine and he first toured the North of England in 1797, making sketches in Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland. www.gazettelive.co.uk
