Lincoln Cathedral auctions Da Vinci props

Published January 29th, 2008

Paintings and statues used in The Da Vinci Code film are being auctioned to raise money for Lincoln Cathedral.

The building was transformed into Westminster Abbey for the 2005 film after authorities in London refused to take part. Westminster Abbey refused to allow stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatou and Sir Ian McKellen to act out the final scenes from the adaptation of Dan Brown’s bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code. At the time they said the book was “theologically unsound”

The items, which include 43 wall hangings based on abbey frescos, have been part of an exhibition at Lincoln since the film crews left.

The sale, which ends on 31 March, will be conducted through sealed bids.

The items can be viewed most days in the Chapter House between the hours of 9.30 am and 4.00 pm Monday- Saturday. Please note that the Cathedral may be closed at certain times for services or events. Please check with the Communications Office, tel 01522 561600.

Normal charges for entry to the Cathedral will apply.
