Over £100 million pounds worth of impressionist and modern art was sold on Monday evening at a Christie’s auction that started a week packed with sales.

The highlight of the Impressionist and Modern Art sale was Pablo Picasso’s 1938 work “Femme au chapeau”, which sold for £5.7 million pounds.

Other highlights of Monday’s auction included “L’Ouled Nail” by Kees van Dongen that sold for £5.6 million pounds, nearly double its upper estimate of three million pounds.

Eight works by Egon Schiele, including several nudes and “Mutter und Kind”, an oil painting inspired by his master Gustav Klimt, made a total of £11.66 million pounds.

Tonight Triptych 1974-77 by Francis Bacon is expected to go for more than £25 million, which would be a new record for any Irish or British work.
